Meet Michaela: She loves singing. And honestly, once you read her story, that detail feels fitting. Because even in heartbreak, her life still carries a song of hope.

When the Unthinkable Happens

“My daughter, Ellie Brooke, was stillborn on September 9, 2023 when I was seven months pregnant with her. She had a rare genetic disorder that was not compatible with life.”

No parent is prepared for a goodbye before a hello. Losing Ellie was the most traumatic and heartbreaking experience Michaela had ever faced. Yet when she looks back on that season now, she does not just see pain. She sees evidence after evidence of God’s faithfulness.

There was one moment that repeated itself so often it could not be brushed off as coincidence.

“There is a song that says, ‘Almighty Fortress, You go before us. Nothing can stand against the power of our God. You shine in the shadow. You win every battle. Nothing can stand against the power of our God.’ I can’t tell you how many times I would become overwhelmed with worry and fear, and as soon as I turned on the radio, it would be playing that exact part of the song.”

Right on time. Every time.

“The Lord would show up at the perfect moment with exactly what I needed to hear, again and again, giving me hope and strength.”

Here is the truth most of us learn somewhere along the road. We are not promised a life free from heartbreak. But we are promised that we will never walk through it alone.

“I could not have made it through that season without the Lord. He gave me courage and hope that I could have never mustered up on my own.”

Words for the Mother Still Walking Through Grief

When asked what she would say to another mother facing unimaginable loss, Michaela’s response carries both honesty and eternal perspective:

“There are things we won’t understand this side of heaven, questions that just don’t have answers. But we do have promises we can cling to. Death is not the end. In the worst moment of my life, my little girl was already embraced in the arms of Jesus. She will only ever know His love and the perfection of heaven. When my heart is missing her, I find so much comfort and joy in that truth.”

Take a second and let that settle. Comfort does not always erase the ache, but it can hold us steady when the waves crash hardest.

The Promise That Carried Her

Scripture became an anchor for Michaela, especially this promise:

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away. Then the one seated on the throne said, ‘Look, I am making everything new!’”
Revelation 21:4–5

And perhaps the most tender line of all:

“And to think, the first thing you saw when you opened your tiny little eyes was the face of Jesus.”

What a picture. What a promise.

You Are Not Alone

If you are carrying grief today, whether fresh or years old, let Michaela’s story remind you that hope can still rise from the ashes. Strength does not mean you were never broken. Sometimes it means God gently rebuilds you, piece by piece.

We pray her testimony brings you comfort and the quiet reassurance that you are never walking this road by yourself.

Even in loss, there is love.
Even in sorrow, there is presence.
Even in the valley, there is hope.
